Off White: a controversial brand to discover

Off White is a Milan-based fashion brand that managed to reach more than 10 million Instagram followers and it keeps surprising the fashion industry with its controversial collections.

Let’s find out a little bit more about Off-White, its founder Virgil Abloh, and the new eyewear designed by the brand for this summer 2021.

Off White: the brand.

The brand was founded in 2012 and it immediately became very popular thanks to its recognizable design characterized by ironic quotes. A scarf with the word “scarf” written on it in quotes, a black dress with “little black dress” written on it, in quotes, and so on. What makes off white so popular are the simplicity of its designs and its plain labels, familiar street-wear shapes and its young and provocative style.

Off White: the founder.

Virgil Abloh was born in Illinois and he is son of two Ghanaian immigrants. He graduated in engineering and Architecture and in 2002, when he was only 22 year old, he met Kanye West and started designing his merchandise and album art.

After that, Abloh and West interned at Fendi in the summer of 2009, so they became more intimate friends and in 2010 Abloh officially took the title of West’s “creative director”. In 2012 Abloh opened his first boutique, based on a concept that went viral: he bought old and discounted Ralph Lauren pieces and he printed on them his graphics and sold them for very high prices. It was very controversial: it was the beginning of Off-White.

In 2017, Off-White collaborated with Nike to redesign some of the company’s bestsellers and classic styles and it was a huge success that confirmed how Off-White was growing and becoming a real fashion phenomenon.

In 2018, Abloh became the artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear and since then he has done an excellent work with the French fashion house.

Off-White: the eyewear

This summer 2021 Off-White makes its debut also in the eyewear sector, presenting its very first collection of sunglasses that we are happy to have in our shop online optifashion.com.

Virgil Abloh said: “I don’t believe in gender, only design” and that’s why he decided to present a genderless collection, characterized by geometrical lines and a strong personality.

The model called Marfa has a cat-eye shape and it is now available in black, tortoise and white on our website. The model called Manchester is characterized by a 1980s style with an inverted trapezoidal lens shape and it is available in black and tortoise.

The model called Alps has an oversized structure that you can see looking at this tortoise model with the distinctive narrow logo on the temples. Last but not least the model Catalina, that takes its name from Santa Catalina Island, in California, has a square oversized shape and is genderless as well as all the models of this beautiful collection.

What makes these sunglasses so unique is the provocative creativity of the artist that immediately stands out.
