SOS Holidays: 5 tips to take care of your sunglasses at the beach

Have you just bought a new pair of sunglasses and are you planning on going to the beach? Be careful; salty water can easily damage metals and anti-reflection coating and the sand can scratch the lenses or get stuck between the frames, making it hard to clean them out.

Here are some tips, 5 to be precise, that will help you to protect them and enjoy your holidays.

1. Use the hard case: as easy as that. Never forget to bring your sunglasses hard case with you because, even if it might be large and not very practical, the hard protective case is the best option if you want to be sure to protect your sunglasses, especially when you are traveling or spending a day at the beach. Otherwise, remember to always put your sunglasses inside your beach bag while you're not wearing them.

2. Avoid excessive heat, in other words: don't forget your sunglasses under the sun for too long. Good lenses are designed to protect you from UVA and UVB rays but it doesn’t mean your sunglasses should be left under the sun all day long or being exposed to excessive heat. Infact, it could cause a distortion of their frames and severely damage them.

3. Clean your sunglasses properly: never forget the cleaning cloth. Another important tip to take care of your sunglasses is to clean them properly. A very common mistake is to clean the lenses with a shirt or the beach towel but you should always use a microfiber cleaning cloth instead. It is designed to remove dirt and spots without damaging the lenses.

4. Sunglasses at the beach: what to do if something goes wrong. If you wear your sunglasses while you go into the sea, make sure to rinse them off when you get back out of the water in order to remove the salt and the sand. After that, dry your sunglasses down with a microfiber cloth: this will help to prevent water spots. Remember: if you try to wipe off your sunglasses without removing the sand first, you may scratch the lenses.

5. Last but not least: choose the right sunglasses! It’s very important to pick the right type of sunglasses to wear at the beach because it really depends on which activities you enjoy doing. Do you prefer to relax, to read, to practice sports or to party? Whatever you like to do there will be the right model of eyewear for you! If you normally wear prescription glasses, be sure to get prescription sunglasses in order to use them at the beach. Remember that sunglasses protect your eyes from dangerous rays so it’s important to choose good lenses and look for trustable brands.
